Before we get started on the Best Places for People of Color to Live let’s have a quick lesson on History 101, which is not taught in most schools in America. Why? It’s time to drop kick global racism & oppression.

Planet Earth is full of deception and lies. People of color make up 90% of the global population and people with white skin color makes up 10%. Women in America and the world are the majority, not the minority. It’s a fact that people with white skin are not the majority in America or globally.

The truth is all humans on planet earth come from Africa some 240,000 years ago. A black woman and man started civilization over 3.5 million years ago in Africa. These are facts that have been removed from our history books. If you conduct your own research you will find millions of years of evidence that every person on planet earth is a person of color from Africa. There is no black or white race. It’s a lie that kept peasants separated so not to fight the elite class. There is only one race of humans, the human race. Skin color and a demographic location are not a race of people. Racism was created to divide and distract people from the ruling class of Oligarchs. Same for war & religion. The Oligarchs created, racism, war, and religion, so we would fight each other while allowing big business to exploit the world.

Costa Rica, Nicaragua & Surrounding Countries

Costa Rica is a fantastic place for people of color.

Blacks constitute 3 percent of the population of Costa Rica, but nearly 24 percent of the population of the province of Limón, on the Atlantic coast. The ancestors of most Costa Rican Blacks did not arrive in Costa Rica to work as slaves on plantations, as in other parts of the Americas and the Caribbean; they came much later, as free people in search of employment.

They came primarily from the British West Indies, and especially from Jamaica, in the late nineteenth century to build a railroad that was needed to transport coffee from the interior highlands to Puerto Limón. Once the railroad was completed, Blacks found work principally in the banana plantations of the United Fruit Company.

Costa Rican Blacks, even those born in the country, did not have citizenship at this time. By the 1930s, worsening economic conditions led to popular political pressure for employers to hire Costa Rican citizens preferentially, and in 1936 a congressional act to that effect was passed, leaving many Blacks unemployed. In the same year, president Leon Cortés forbade Blacks from entering the almost purely White highlands by prohibiting Blacks from traveling past the city of Turrialba in the direction of the highlands. This policy extended even to railroad employees who were Black; they had to disembark the train at Turrialba and be replaced by White workers when the train traveled away from the coast.

The United Fruit Company pulled up stakes in eastern Costa Rica in the early 1940s to move its operations to western Costa Rica. Blacks, by virtue of the presidential order, could not follow the company, and many were left without employment. During the 1948 civil war, some Blacks supported José “Pepe” Figueres, the leader of the group that won. Figueres, in return for this support, offered Blacks Costa Rican citizenship and paid some heed to their needs in later elections. Blacks accepted this offer, even though citizenship carried with it a requirement that children attend Spanish-language schools and learn Spanish, something the English-speaking Blacks did not find attractive. English of the Jamaican dialect continues to be spoken, however, despite the Spanish-language requirement.

Prior to 1950, the Black community was almost completely endogamous. By 1978, however, 6.5 percent of marriages in a sample of 218 households were racially mixed, and 45 percent of Black people in those households viewed marriage to people of Spanish origin as desirable. There has long been a preference among many Costa Rican Blacks for light skin, which they believe brings social rewards such as status, wealth, and power, and this is one reason for increased intermarriage.

Most Costa Rican Blacks today still live in the province of Limón, an area that produces the majority of Costa Rica’s bananas and cacao and that boasts the country’s principal commerical port. The people there are mostly working-class poor, and the region is not densely populated. Nevertheless, in the 1980s and 1990s, many Blacks have moved away from the rural areas for better jobs in Costa Rican cities and in the United States.

New Zealand

New Zealand is renowned for its scenic beauty, and being an area that is roughly the size of the state of California means that it is all quite accessible. New Zealand’s 15,134 km (9,404 mi) of coastline, lined with many beautiful beaches, offers plenty of access to the ocean and its bounty, while features that vary from deep fjords in the far south to subtropical kauri forests in the far north, the Southern Alps that dominate the larger South Island, and the volcanoes accompanied by their steamy thermal pools that define the North Island present a surprising amount of natural diversity to enjoy.

With a population of just four million people, even with a booming tourist industry that draws outdoor lovers of all types year round, you will not feel the crush of humanity anywhere in New Zealand. The pace of life is slower here, the “Kiwis” as the locals are called, are laid back, and the lifestyle, refreshingly simple. Along with the famed sheep farming, wine cultivation has become a big part of New Zealand’s culture and economy, and a growing film industry is another a boon to the economy.

  1. Women don’t have to cover up in Dubai. Not even Muslim women have to. All they ask is for women to dress modestly in public but I have yet to see something happen to half-naked women in malls and on the street.

  2. RESPONSE FROM FYM: Paul, recorded history dates back to 3.4 million years with humans and 4.5 billion years with the earth and 14 billion years with the universe. History isn’t a few thousand years.

How can I take such an article seriously when it begins with a bunch of mindless theories about history? Recorded history is only a few thousands if years old and the out of Africa theory actually hides the truth. There’s a reason the Buddha’s of Asia all have curly hair. I’ll say no more on this here.

  3. Yeah, move from America and see how great you do. Trust me, if you have enough money to move to one of these countries you are not facing racism in America.

  4. Thanks for the insights. It’s getting pretty hectic for us in the states. However, Dubai and Hong Kong – expensive and not partial to us. Just left Costa Rica and it is not inexpensive to live…few of us on the Pacific Coast…expat retirees making it more expensive and you really should be fluent in Spanish. The Caribbean coast is where we are and while beautiful, has it’s challenges. I plan to visit Ghana…especially with the repatriation program for blacks of the diaspora.

Interesting article but…geesh to have to move out of a country our ancestors built with their own sweat, tears and hard labor just to be treated humanely?! Its come to that? How sad.

  6. What a strange blog aimed at Black people, very strange suggestions of places we could live, the continent of Africa has 53 states awash with business opportunities, not one mentioned here? Is that based on ignorance or prejudice? South Africa has a very developed infrastructure if there is concern about modernisation of facilities. Back to the drawing board, I think. Arab countries are not safe at all.

Not Dubai! They have a deep slavery issue! Illegally hiring international people and taking away their papers to never pay them so they’re trapped there working inhumane hours while sleeping in tight harsh dorm styled buildings miles outside of town to make the tourists believe that Dubai is squeaky clean! They are in debt do to unfinished tourist projects and because they have a basically non existent water source. the water they do have goes to hotels and golf land for tourists.

  8. Good article.

  9. After reading this article, I realize that people of color have all the power. Just like Dorothy.

  10. Good article. I loved Costa Rica… great for brown people.

  11. Would love to relocate to Costa Rica after retirement. Can someone please tell me how I can find a sponsor to show and teach us the ropes? This is a serious inquiry! Help me.

RESPONSE: Google off the grid communities in Costa Rica… tons of them.

  12. Yahoo! Another cool article from this site. Keep up the good work. I agree, get the heck out of this violent place.

  13. When my little one is born were moving to newzealand I’m a 21 year old black male looking for a place where my future family can thrive

  14. Did u purposely leave out countries in Africa? There are quite a few that you guys could move to and live a better life. My take and experience on the Arab countries are a little different from some people there I guess. Many black people do not have a good experience in many of those countries. There are a lot of people of color there – what kind of jobs are open to them; how much are they allowed to integrate and participate in life there; how different is it living there ver visiting. And, it is expensive. For some of the other places – someone famous once said “when I travel abroad, I say to my hosts, Im glad you are welcoming to me an African American, but how do you treat my African brothers/sisters from other places – its what you have done to the least of these”.

  15. I was just told by a friend who has lived in Australia for years that he will definitely go back and retire there because it is void of prejudice. Just an FYI. I’d rather see things change here in the US though.

  16. Great article!

  17. Hong Kong and Dubai are expensive. What do we do for work? What about hair care and skin care?

  18. Fantastic! Thank you-
